THE KIT
The kit was designed for organizations serving parents and families with children ages 8 and under.
Community Organizer's Handbook: Contains materials on how to teach parents what to do to prevent fires in the home
Calendar: (18 months) Includes interactive activities and a monthly reminder to check the smoke detectors
Each month the characters Martha and Chispas lead the family in learning new safety tips.
Home Fire Safety Checklist: Can be distributed at festivals and parents meetings and provides simple, positive reminders to take care of fire hazards
Kitchen Safety Flyer: Colorful reminder to families of steps they can take to ensure their safety in the kitchen
There are also tips for putting out small kitchen fires.
Martha Makes a Map Activity: (Practice and Plan) Helps teach how to get out safely in case of a fire
Children first help Martha get out of her house using the maze activity, and then they create their own map with their families.
Stickers: (10 sheets) Conveying the message, "Yo respeto el fuego, no es juego" (I respect fire-it's not a toy/game) the stickers are a wonderful incentive and can be used as a reward for completing the program or for participating in one of the activities.
Bookmarks: (One in Spanish, one in English) Includes the message "Yo respeto el fuego, no es juego" on one side
On the reverse, children and families are reminded of fire prevention tips and what to do if there is a fire.
Diskette: Contains files with reprintable materials as well as sample opinion editorials and a sample letter to parents.
CD Rom: Includes two original songs created for the program" "Stop, Drop and Roll" and "El fuego no es juego"
