Education is the Equalizer

New York becomes the first state to offer free four-year college tuition reads the headline. New York will join San Francisco, who offers two years of community college for its residents.  Change is happening and our young and our nation will benefit. Businesses require a college education in the workforce. For young Latinos who receive their education, it removes a major obstacle to employment and success.  Those who are not preparing to go to college will have limited opportunities to advance. For those who sacrificed to attend, the student education debt lasts a lifetime and is a hindrance to prosper and grow as they are burdened with debt.  There are many questions regarding this new thinking on preparing the future workforce and New York has figured it out. Other states that offer some form of tuition-free college include Kentucky, Oregon, Tennessee and Minnesota. NLCI supports education for young Latinos for it is the equalizer.
