Free books for Woodland’s Dia de los Ninos celebration
Woodland’s 15th annual celebration of Día de los Niños, day of the children, will be held from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, April 27, with free games, arts and crafts projects, storytelling, music and other entertainment at Ferns Park.
Every child in attendance will receive a free book. The community-based group raises money each year to purchase and donate more than $2,000 worth of books to children in our community.
Recognized annually since 1998 by U.S. Senate resolution, Día de los Niños originally was established by the National Latino Children’s Institute and now is celebrated nationally as a day for parents, families and communities to value and uplift both Latino and non-Latino children in the United States, according to Chairwoman Patricia Valenzuela. Children’s literacy programs often are aligned closely with the day, as well.
